Solar power generation equipment fall into different kinds such as micro-inverters, string or central inverters and power optimizers. All of these feature a front-end DC-DC power converter (also known as the MPPT converter or multiple power point tracking converter) which optimizes the DC power draw from the photovoltaic panel and a back-end DC/AC inverter which delivers well regulated AC power to the load equipment or utility grid. Hybrid solar power systems additionally feature a battery bank for energy storage which interfaces with the traditional solar inverter's electronics via another high-voltage DC/DC converter.
All of these power conversion blocks must offer high efficiency, superior reliability and low overall system cost under increasingly demanding conditions such as higher panel voltages (> 1500 V), higher ambient temperatures (> 85C) and long lifetimes (> 25 years). With a broad portfolio of FETs, JFETs and diodes ranging from 650 V to 1700 V, Qorvo's SiC products enable designers to optimize their overall system efficiency, size and cost. The availability of these products in surface mount packages such as TOLL and D2-PAK reduces assembly costs and saves space, whereas traditional through-hole packages like TO-247 simplifies thermal management.
