Puy du Fou: How Micro-Location Can Enable Storytelling

Qorvo's Ultra-Wideband technology often proves its value in unexpected places, and one of the most dramatic examples comes from Puy du Fou in France. In the theme park’s immersive walkthrough show Le Premier Royaume, hundreds of guests move through detailed sets while actors lighting sound and special effects must respond in perfect synchronization. To keep the experience seamless and believable, the production team needed a way to know exactly where audiences were at every moment. UWB delivered the precision and reliability required to turn a complex live performance into a flawlessly timed experience.
“Timing is everything in live performance, but without knowing exactly where the audience is, perfect timing is impossible.” — Show Production Team, Puy du Fou
The Challenge: Synchronizing Effects and Performers in a Dynamic Live Environment
Le Premier Royaume runs for hours each day across multiple sets and levels, with up to five hundred visitors moving continuously through the space. Lights sound special effects and actor entrances all depend on audience position rather than fixed cues. Traditional technologies like Bluetooth Wi-Fi or RFID could not provide the centimeter-level accuracy or real-time responsiveness needed in a dense RF environment filled with sets walls and moving people. Cameras were also impractical due to line-of-sight limitations. The production team needed a solution that could track hundreds of moving elements simultaneously with extreme precision and minimal latency to keep the show perfectly synchronized.
The Solution: Real-Time Micro-Location Powered by UWB and Qorvo

Eliko's UWB RTLS system integrates Qorvo's UWB devices and can track hundreds of objects in real time.
Puy du Fou turned to Eliko’s UWB-based real-time location system integrated with our UWB devices to track audience position actors and equipment in real time. Using time-of-flight measurements across ultra-wide bandwidth signals the system delivers centimeter-level accuracy second by second even in non-line-of-sight conditions. UWB’s immunity to multi-path interference and its ability to operate reliably through set walls allowed all show elements to stay perfectly aligned with audience movement. By synchronizing lighting sound effects and performances based on precise location data UWB transformed Le Premier Royaume into a fully responsive live experience and demonstrated how micro-location can enable storytelling environments where precision is everything.
